Background: Alex completely abandoned his only living relative just to show up on a quest to save the world. But some of those people were using violence to advance the quest and really he was just in it to become all-powerful. Then he had to deal with protags taking over the job, but he could only become all-powerful if they saved the world so it worked pretty nicely. Except not, turns out Sorta-God saw what he was up to and rigged things so he didn't get everything and also got stuck on a collapsing mountain. Apparently he was fine 10 years later because he had started on some new plan and knocked up a chick in the town he stopped in. 20 years after THAT, he led the protags' kids through another quest because I don't know, I'm still waiting for the fourth game...
Canon Point: After Dark Dawn.

Personality: Alex is a power-hungry magnificent bastard and master of manipulation. He wants limitless power and eternal life. He also wants other people to do any of the work he really doesn't have to bother with. But seriously, this asshole pulls it off because he can come up with or create legitimate reasons for them to do it.

The way he usually presents himself so does not match what I just described. Yes, he does not bother to hide his ego and readily bashes people, but somehow he still says everything politely. Also I actually have no proof whatsoever that he's ever lied to anybody. Like really, how horrible and awesome is that?! He's a very calm creeper almost all the time. Then there's that one time he thought he was all-powerful and was like cray-cray LET'S SMASH EVERYTHING- oh shit, what?

So yeah, totally out for himself. Except he actually gives a shit about his cousin Mia, which is why he avoids her at all costs. Maybe gives a shit about Veriti, he definitely gave a fuck. And he really doesn't show any animosity. He entirely does not care what happens to other people. You protags are gonna go help people? Sure, that's nice of you. Entire towns are gonna get wiped out if I make this guy start this machine? Mmkay, I apparently need the machine that fixes it anyway. Zero fucks given for anyone who is not him.

Motivations: Alex wants all the power in his world ever and also to live forever. He's pretty pissed at the Wise One for throwing a wrench in that plan and wants to stick it to him, too. He will make sure somebody does whatever is necessary for him to achieve his goals.
